HTC Could Acquire New Mobile OS, Patents

HTC-Logo-500x333HTC may consider buying a mobile OS and patents related to mobile technology in the future.  Martin Fichter, the President of HTC America revealed to IDGNS on Monday that the Taiwanese mobile phone manufacturer hadn't ruled out the possibility of buying a mobile OS and patents to help them in their patent infringement conflict with Apple.

Industry analysts have also noted the possibility of HTC buying out a pre-existing mobile OS such as Meego or the Palm WebOS to power its smartphones in the future. Also, in order to better protect themselves against Apple's patent infringement suit, HTC is also showing interest in buying patents related to mobile technology such as those belonging to InterDigital, an American company that develops wireless technology.
However Fichter clarified to IDGNS that they would prefer leveraging in-house technology over purchasing patents.
Apple filed a lawsuit against HTC back in March of last year alleging 20 different patent infringements related to the iPhone UI and hardware.
