Google's Citrus Flavoured Doodle

The latest static Google doodle honours Albert Szent-Gyorgyi on his 118th birthday. Albert Szent-Gyorgyi was a Hungarian physiologist who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1937 for "For his discoveries in connection with the biological combustion process with special reference to vitamin C and the catalysis of fumaric acid."

Todays' doodle, an image of a variety of citrus fruits such as oranges and strawberries with the Google logo etched on top of it, draws its inspiration from the Hungarian physiologist's discovery of Vitamin C. However while the doodle does concentrate on his major 'Nobel prize' accomplishment, it doesn’t capture the entire essence of the man: he had joined the Hungarian Resistance movement in WWII; Post WW-II, he made a foray into the political sphere and was elected as a member of the Hungarian Parliament; and in 1947, having become dissatisfied with Communist rule in Hungary, he emigrated to the United States, where he died in Woods Hole, Massachusetts on October 22, 1986.
